Ukraine has mounted a significant drone offensive against Russia, marking one of the largest such attacks since the conflict began, according to Russian reports. The assault resulted in at least six fatalities and ignited a substantial fire at a distribution warehouse near Moscow. Russia’s Defence Ministry reported intercepting 1,478 Ukrainian drones over a 24-hour span, claiming it as the highest number recorded in a single day, though these figures remain unverified.
In the Moscow region, approximately 600 drones were said to have been launched, with 201 reportedly being destroyed, as stated by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The attacks claimed one life in the area. A significant blaze erupted at a Wildberries distribution center near Podolsk, about 25 miles from central Moscow, severely damaging the 250,000 square meter facility, according to Ukraine’s military. Ukrainian officials have indicated that Wildberries facilities are targeted due to their alleged use for military logistics.
This escalation underscores Ukraine’s advancing long-range strike capabilities, while Russia persists in employing drones and missiles for assaults on Ukrainian urban centers and infrastructure. Concurrently, Russian attacks took the lives of at least seven individuals in Ukraine, with casualties reported in Kryvyi Rih and the Sumy region. Kyiv also suffered from a missile strike, injuring six people and setting fires, including one at a major book market that left several businesses devastated.
In a related event, NATO officials reported that a Spanish fighter jet, engaged in a NATO patrol, shot down a suspected Russian drone after it breached Romanian airspace. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Russia for its repeated assaults on civilian infrastructure, asserting that Moscow had unleashed over 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles against Ukraine in the preceding week.
This intensification of hostilities comes as both Ukraine and Russia expand their use of long-range weaponry, heightening the potential for civilian casualties and widespread damage far beyond the immediate front lines of the conflict.
