Canada and India are reinforcing their relationship as key partners, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors. This commitment was highlighted in a meeting between Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Following their discussions, Anand recognized India as one of the globe’s fastest-growing and most dynamic economies. Both ministers reviewed the progress under the Canada-India roadmap, a framework that outlines cooperation in diverse areas such as trade, security, energy, mobility, innovation, and defense. They expressed a shared commitment to advancing these priorities and elevating the bilateral relationship.
Jaishankar described the meeting as productive, emphasizing efforts to elevate the partnership to a higher level. The dialogue underscores the mutual intent to enhance collaboration and address shared global challenges in their partnership.
Anand also noted Canada’s broader strategy to diversify its international partnerships by building stronger economic relationships with countries across the Indo-Pacific, Gulf, and Latin America regions, including major economies like India and China. This approach is part of Canada’s initiative to engage with rapidly growing economies and enhance its global economic footprint.
